» Environmental Impact
California Motorsport Adventours has steady business year
round, and with as much business as we bring into the Puerto
Nuevo area, you may be concerned about the negative environmental
impact our tours have on the environment. Let us put your
worries to rest.
We rely on the land we ride through for the quality of our
tours. The overall well being of the riding area is our business.
Not only does our business rely on the land, but many of our
own employees have this land as their own backyard.
Many people are misled by the concept of “Off Roading”
and the damage it is assumed to cause. In fact, the trails
we ride are not trails at all, but are in fact public fire
roads that are used by cars and trucks every day. Any land
erosion and trail degradation caused by our vehicles is nearly
non-existent thanks to these pre-existing roads.
Note to advanced riders: We are not limited to the fire
roads; in fact there are numerous goat trails that are very
challenging.
There is a term in the off road world known as “Tread
Lightly”, similar to the backpacking term “Leave
no trace”. It means we do not deviate from pre-existing
trails and therefore maintain all vegetation and wildlife
remains in its natural state.
While there will always be people who abuse the environment
around them, both off roaders and backpackers alike, California
Motorsport Adventours is proud of the land we ride and we
plan to have it in the same condition as it is now in another
10 years.
While we can say this about the trails we ride, we can not
say the same about El Descanso sand dunes. We have been riding
here for over 7 years now, and in the past years as condos
and resort hotels grew steadily around the dunes, El Descanso
remained in tact. Unfortunately, the dunes will not be the
same as they are now in even a years time. A large, and important,
portion of the dunes has been sold and there are now plans
in the making for more high-rise condos.
We can’t begin to express our grief over this. The
sand dunes are a unique attraction for the area and sadly
are diminishing in size every year. A once cherished piece
of land for off road enthusiasts of all ages will give way
to tourists who want more resort living.
If you still have concerns about the environmental impact
off roading has, here is a good site: http://home.earthlink.net/~cyberkiwi/environment/index.html
